AV-012 Extinguishing fires with small fire extinguishers

Target group

The course is suitable for all employees who must be able to act as a first responder to a small fire just after initiation.

Admission requirements

Students must be at least 18 years of age.

Objective

The objective of the training is to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge in order to be able to respond appropriately to a small fire just after initiation.

THEORY

  • Knowledge of the content of the safety function
  • knowledge of work permits, and being able to interpret and comply with them
  • acquiring basic knowledge of the necessary ingredients for most fires (fire triangle),
  • the initiation, development and spread of a fire
  • knowledge of the different types of fires, their
  • causes, and the appropriate extinguishing agents
  • knowledge of how to deal with a fire, a fire alarm, or an evacuation alarm

PRACTICAL

  • should the initiation of a fire be detected, use hand-held CO2 fire extinguishers and foam extinguishers to extinguish the fire
  • using a fire blanket to extinguish a chip pan fire
  • use of a wall-mounted hose reel (optional)

Duration

Training takes 1 day to complete. The theoretical exam lasts 15 minutes and the practical exam lasts 30 minutes.

Validity period of diploma

The student receives a certificate after the course as proof of participation. This certificate is valid for an unlimited period.
