VCA Basic Course

The course is intended for anyone performing high-risk work in industry, petrochemicals, engineering and construction. It also includes executive-level employees who perform high-risk work in other industries.

Admission requirements

No specific requirements.

Target

In order to optimally develop employees’ awareness of safety, safety training is necessary.
In addition, they must be able to demonstrate through an SCC-approved “diploma” that they have the required basic safety knowledge.

This course aims to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills, as well as safety concepts, efficiency, effectiveness and a sense of responsibility.

Laws and regulations;
Risks and approaches;
Accidents and disasters;
Hazardous substances;
Fire, explosions and fire prevention;
Tools and machines;
Electricity;
Hoisting and lifting;

The basic VCA course normally takes 1 day.

VCA Training Complete Course

The course is designed for operational managers who perform high-risk activities in industry, petrochemicals, engineering and construction. Executives from other sectors, which involve high-risk work, are also part of the target group.

AV-011 Fire Guard

The course is intended for any employee who is professionally involved in firefighting or who acts as a safety supervisor at work with an increased risk of fire/explosion.

Admission requirements

The student must be at least 18 years old.

Target

The training aims at acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the job of fire watch in activities with an increased risk of fire or explosion.
This includes:

Theory:

Knowing the content of the safety function
Know what work permits are and be able to interpret and comply with them
Know the purpose and use of the fire permit and basic relevant environmental and safety regulations
acquire elementary knowledge in the conditions of a fire (fire triangle), the origin, development and spread of a fire
Know the different types of fires, their causes and means of fighting them
Be able to recognize work situations with an increased fire risk and the action to take
prevention measures before, during and after the works
Know the operation and deployment range of different types of fire extinguishers
Know the applicable personal protective equipment and its scope of application
know how to act in the event of a fire, a fire alarm, an evacuation alarm
Know basic first aid measures for burns

Practice:

fires of solids, liquids and gases using powder fast extinguishers,
CO2 rapid extinguishers and water can extinguish
be able to use a fire blanket
be able to use a wall reel
Be able to connect and handle fire hoses
Be able to verify the terms of the permit
Be able to alarm in an efficient manner

Duration

The training takes 1 day to complete.
The theoretical exam takes 15 minutes and the practical exam 30 minutes.

Period of validity Diploma

The diploma obtained remains valid for 3 years.

AV-012 Extinguishing With Small Extinguishers

The course is designed for all employees who must be able to respond appropriately in the event of an incipient fire.

Admission requirements

The student must be at least 18 years old.

Target

The training aims to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to respond appropriately in the event of an incipient fire.

Theory:

Knowing the content of the safety function
Know what work permits are and be able to interpret and comply with them
acquire basic knowledge in the conditions of a fire (fire triangle), the
origin, development and spread of a fire
Know the different types of fires, their causes and means of control
Know the operation and deployment range of different types of fire extinguishers
know how to act in the event of a fire, a fire alarm, an evacuation alarm

Practice:

be able to extinguish an incipient fire using portable powder extinguishers, CO2 extinguishers and (optional) foam
Be able to extinguish a burning French fry pan using a fire blanket
Be able to handle a wall reel (optional)

Duration

The training takes 1 day to complete.
The theoretical exam takes 15 minutes and the practical exam 30 minutes.

Period of validity Diploma

The student will receive a certificate as proof of participation at the end of the training.
This certificate remains valid indefinitely.

IS-007 Safety Guard Confined Space

Target

The course is designed for employees who:

act as an outside guard for the safety supervision of employees entering and working in confined spaces
In case of emergency, be responsible for the implementation of first-line intervention

Employees working in petrochemicals must take this exam at an accredited center.

Admission requirements

Be at least 18 years of age;
Possess a certificate of medical fitness;
In possession of a valid certificate/diploma: Working with self-contained breathing protection IS-008 or IS-081.

Target

The training aims to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to appropriately perform the function of safety guard when entering and working in confined spaces.
This includes:

Application of licensing systems and entry procedures;
Working correctly with fall protection;
Communication with entrants;
Know the potential hazards and risks of confined spaces;
Know the safety precautions when working in confined space;
Interpreting measurements;
Correctly respond and act in case of emergencies;
Apply techniques of first-line intervention.

Target time

The training takes 2 days.
The theoretical exam takes 20 minutes (maximum 30 minutes) and the practical exam 40 minutes.

Period of validity Diploma

The diploma obtained remains valid for 3 years.

IS-013 Measuring & Detecting Hazardous Substances: EX-OX-TOX

The course is designed for employees who must perform, interpret and report Ex-Ox-Tox measurements at a company site. Employees working in the petrochemical industry must take this exam at an accredited center.

Admission requirements

The student must

Be at least 18 years of age;
Preferably having a basic understanding of hazardous materials is indicated.

Target

The training aims to teach methods to effectively and safely measure concentrations of hazardous materials, explosives and oxygen and to report and interpret the measurement results.
This includes:

Know the basic concepts of health hazards;
Know the basic concepts of fire and explosion;
Know basic concepts of asphyxiation due to oxygen deficiency and the effects of too high and too low oxygen concentration;
EX-OX-TOX can perform measurements;
Use and operate measuring equipment and tools correctly;
Interpret measurements and draw conclusions;
Measurement reporting.

Target time

The training takes 2 days.
The theoretical exam takes 30 minutes (maximum 60 minutes) and the practical exam 45 minutes.

Period of validity Diploma

The diploma obtained remains valid for 10 years.
Note! Every 5 years, the company must arrange for the evaluation (internal or external) of employees to see if they still meet the conditions.
The company itself is responsible for this.
During an audit, the SCC auditors will certainly screen this.

IS-081 Working With Independent Autonomous Respiratory Protection

Employees who have to work with autonomous and non-autonomous self-contained breathing protection on company premises, in installations, workshops, difficult-to-access places, confined spaces, etc., where the oxygen concentration in the ambient air may be too low, and/or where there are excessive concentrations of health hazardous substances. For employees working in (petro)chemistry, this exam must be taken at an approved center. Employees, who can work with independent respiratory protection, are assumed to be able to work with dependent respiratory protection as well.

Admission requirements

The student must

Be at least 18 years of age;
Possess a certificate of medical fitness;

Target

Learning to work effectively and safely with autonomous and non-autonomous self-contained breathing protection (both SCBAs and hose-connected devices), this includes:

Control of respiratory protection devices;
Set up and take down the equipment properly and with the necessary controls;
Moving through hard-to-reach locations with self-contained breathing protection;
Perform work with self-contained breathing protection;
Respond correctly to emergency situations.

Target time

The training takes one day (autonomous and non-autonomous).
The theoretical exam takes 20 minutes and the practical exam a minimum of 30 minutes.

Period of validity Diploma

The diploma obtained remains valid for 10 years.
Note! Every 5 years, the company must be responsible for the evaluation (internal or external) of employees to see if they still meet the conditions.
The company itself is responsible for this.
During an audit, the SCC auditors will certainly screen this.

Be at least 18 years of age;
Possess a certificate of medical fitness;

Target
