Air hoods are always combined with motor units or compressed air. Furthermore, depending upon the design, they are often more than simple respiratory protection equipment: grinding hoods, welding shields, chemical-resistant caps, etc. The air is normally fed into the hood via an air channel that sits over the visor, preventing the visor from misting up. Depending on the design of the hood, different nominal protection factors (NPF) can be achieved.
